Karen Ann Cherkis

Karen Ann Cherkis began ballet and gymnastics at the age of three in Lafayette, Louisiana, later expanding to lyrical, tap and jazz. She began teaching introductory ballet in 2002 in southern Indiana to subsidize her dance education. Ms. Cherkis joined the Ballet School faculty after moving to Chapel Hill to pursue a PhD in genetics and molecular biology at UNC. In addition to teaching at the Ballet School, Karen Ann participates in medical outreach and education for pharmaceutical companies and enjoys hiking and yoga in her free time.
