In Memoriam - Carol Richard

May 21, 1948 - August 21, 2007

Carol Richard became a partner in The Ballet School in 1981. Over the years she taught ballet and modern classes and served as choreographer and co-director for Chapel Hill Dance Theater. Coming to North Carolina from New York in 1974, Carol held dance faculty positions at Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro, the North Carolina School of the Arts, Elon College and Meredith College. In 1985, she received a choreography fellowship at the American Dance Festival and in 1993 was named Dance Teacher of the Year by the North Carolina School of the Arts. After retiring from teaching, Carol served as the administrator for The Ballet School and for its subsidiary, The Artgarden Montessori Children's House. Carol held a Master's Degree in Dance from the University of Michigan.

Carol Richard Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship in Carol’s name has been established at the Ballet School of Chapel Hill and will support the studies or choreographic pursuits of young and aspiring dancers, particularly those with a passion for modern dance.
