Creative Arts & Dance Camp (Ages 3-6)

June 11 – August 3, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am-12:00 noon

$195/week ($97.50 deposit for each week)*

“Lunch Bunch” option, 12:00 noon-12:45 pm, $25/week

**Due to July 4th holiday, the week of July 2nd camp will meet 4 days.

Under the direction of Killian Manning and Ballet School teachers and staff, our youngest campers will explore a variety of arts activities including dance, storytelling, music, and arts and crafts. Campers will dance each day including creative rhythm tap with Robin Vail. The theme for this summer is “Arts & Dance Around the World”. Each week, campers will “travel” to a different country exploring the arts through a variety of creative art projects, music and dance! A different country will be explored each week providing a new experience for returning campers. Time is reserved each morning for outside play and snack break with juice and crackers. On the last day, campers will share what they have learned in dance and creative rhythm tap classes for family and friends! Maximum enrollment for each week is 20. Student/teacher ratio is 7 to 1 maximum. Lunch Bunch fee is $25/week for campers choosing to stay an extra 45 minutes for lunch. (Lunch Bunch campers will need to bring a bag lunch).

DANCE & MUSICAL THEATER CAMPS FOR THE NOVICE TO BEGINNER AGES 7-11

DANCE EXPRESS!

A dance camp for the novice to beginner. Ages 7-11.

June 11 – 15, 9:00am – 12 noon

$210 ($105.00 deposit)*

Directed by Robin Vail and Diane Eilber, students will explore rhythm tap, contemporary jazz, ballet and modern.  Designed specifically for the novice or beginner, dancers will receive a daily technique class in one genre, a second class in another genre, in addition to learning about other related topics such as dance history, terminology, choreography and stage make-up. Dancers should wear a leotard, jazz pants or footless tights and bring shoes for each genre if available. The studio will try to provide tap shoes.  Students will participate in a short informal performance on the last day for family and friends. Dancers should bring a light snack.

IT’S SHOWTIME!

A Musical Theater Camp for Ages 7-11

June 18 – June 29, 9:00 am-1:00 pm

$520 ($260 deposit)*

Under the direction of Gene Medler, campers will write and create an original musical. Musical numbers will be choreographed by “Mr. Gene”, Killian Manning, Diane Eilber and Robin Vail; Musical Direction by Gabriel Peck. Campers will dance, sing and act daily and will also assist with costumes, props and set design.  On the final Friday, the resulting musical will be presented in the Ballet School Studio Theater. Family and friends are invited to attend the show!  For the daily rehearsals, campers should wear comfortable clothing and bring a light snack each day.

Chapel Hill Dance Theater Repertory Workshop

June 25-29, 9:30am-12:30pm

$210 ($105 deposit)*

Completion of Ballet 3+

Under the direction of Chapel Hill Dance Theater Directors and Choreographers, M’Liss Dorrance, Diane Eilber and Katie Wakeford, dancers will begin each day with a warm-up/technique class followed by rehearsals of selected CHDT repertory choreography.  Dancers will also receive instruction on mime and acting. On the last day, dancers will participate in an informal performance for family and friends showing the CHDT repertory dances they have learned during the workshop. Dancers should bring a light snack each day.

Pre-Pointe Workshop – “Cinderella”

July 9-20, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

$560 ($280 deposit)*

Completion of Ballet 2 or above required.

Dancers will receive a daily ballet technique class and additional classes in modern, jazz, character and other related topics such as ballet history, terminology, stage make-up and injury prevention. Students should bring a light snack each day.

 

Intermediate Ballet Workshop – “Sleeping Beauty”

July 23 – August 3, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

$560 ($280 deposit)*

Completion of Ballet 4 or above required.

Dancers will receive a daily ballet technique class and additional classes in pointe, modern, jazz, character, and other related topics such as ballet history, terminology, stage make-up and injury prevention. Students should bring a light snack each day.

 

Fall Ballet Warm-Up

August 13-17, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon

$145 ($72.50 deposit)*

Completion of Ballet 5 or above required.

 

CONTEMPORARY JAZZ & HIP-HOP INTENSIVES

Contemporary Jazz, Broadway & Hip-Hop Intensive

July 16-20 9:30 am-12:30 pm

$210 ($105 deposit)*

Completion of 1 year of Contemporary Jazz, Modern, Ballet, Dance Styles or Hip-Hop

Ronnie West and Laci McDonald will teach this intensive designed for the advanced beginner to intermediate Contemporary Jazz, Dance Styles, Modern, Ballet or Hip-Hop student. The intensive will explore Contemporary Jazz, Broadway Jazz and Hip-Hop as well as the history of both genres, choreography and dance videography. Dancers should wear a leotard and/or a t-shirt, jazz pants and bring shoes for each genre if available. Dancers should bring a light snack each day. On the last day, students will participate in a brief informal showing for friends and family.

 

RHYTHM TAP INTENSIVES

 

Intermediate/Advanced Rhythm Tap Intensive with Gene Medler

July 23 – 27, 9:00 am-1:00 pm with Gene Medler

$280 ($140 deposit)*

Completion of Tap 6 or above required.

Students will focus on technique, skills, patterns and combinations. In addition, dancers will work on improvisational and performance skills. Students will explore the history of rhythm tap through historical choreography and contributors to the art form through videography and various materials. Students should bring a light snack each day.

 

Rhythm Tap Repertory Intensive with Gene Medler

July 30– Aug. 3, 9:30-12:30

$210 ($105 deposit)*

Completion of Tap 3-5 required.

Students will learn and study historical tap choreography by Leonard Reed, Honi Coles, Cholly Atkins and Jimmy Slide among others. Students will learn historic choreography that all tap dancers should have “in their back-pocket” focusing on combinations, patterns and historic pieces. Dancers will further learn about the great contributions of tap dancers and choreographers through videography and various materials. Students should bring a light snack each day.

*A deposit is required upon registration for any camp or workshop with the tuition balance payable on the first day of each session. Deposits are refundable until two weeks before the start of each camp. There are no refunds for absences. Camps or workshops that do not meet our minimum enrollment requirement may be cancelled with a full refund of all deposits.
