Chapel Hill Dance Theater (CHDT)

Rehearsal Schedule

The Chapel Hill Dance Theater (CHDT) provides local dancers with valuable performing experience in annual spring productions such as Alice in Wonderland, Hansel and Gretel and Peter and the Wolf. Auditions are held in the early fall and most rehearsals occur on Saturday afternoons. 

North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble (NCYTE)

The North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble (NCYTE) was founded in 1983 by Gene Medler. It serves to:

NCYTE commissions choreography from across the nation. The abilities of its young dancers allow artists who work with the company complete choreographic freedom. Recent contributions to the repertoire include works by Lane Alexander, Ira Bernstein, Brenda Bufalino, Barbara Duffy, Savion Glover, Jared Grimes, James Green, Joshua Hilberman, Ted Levy, Gene Medler, Michael Minery, Margaret Morrision, Jan and Eddie Owens, Zans McLachlan, and Ruth Pershing.

The ensemble performs locally, nationally, and internationally in venues ranging from retirement homes, schools, and fairs to international festivals. NCYTE has been featured in performances at Duke (with the Squirrel Nut Zippers), and has made regular appearances at the St. Louis Tap Festival and the Chicago Human Rhythm Project. Senior member of NCYTE are part of the founding cast and touring company of Common Ground and have appeared at Tap In at the Town Hall Theatre in New York City, and the Vienna Tap Festival in Austria. NCYTE can also be seen in the PBS special Juba. NCYTE also sponsors the annual North Carolina Rhythm Tap Festival, which is held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in June.
